Cuba Helps Vietnam Road Development
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Dec 17 (Prensa Latina) Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khi opened Friday construction works at the 38-mile Ho Chi Minh-Trung Luong highway, in which Cuban experts have played a pivotal role.
The road is part of a wider driveway that links different spots of the huge southern Can Tho, administrative center of the Mekong-river delta provinces.
It is the first highway in Vietnam, with eight 3.75-yard lanes and two others devoted to emergencies, expected to be finished in 2007.
This project is a property of MTA (My Thuan's Administration), while Cuban QCI (Quality Courier International) is technically assessing works, while the Construction and Communications Corporation is responsible for on-site works.
Cuban engineers specialized in soils, asphalt, and bridges are consultants for the works, expected to conclude in 36 months, at a cost of some $420 million from state funds.
Duong Tuan Minh, project control director and Ramon Suarez Martin, QCI president, and other officials and experts from both countries also attended the opening ceremony.
In a short speech, the Vietnamese prime minister highlighted the importance of the Ho Chi Mihn-Trung Luong highway, as means to tap the potentiality of the economic areas in the Mekong delta, the largest granary in the country.
Khai also asked the Communications and Transportation Ministry to consider the possibility of build a railroad track to unite Ho Chi Minh City and Mekon's provinces.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Dec 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's achievements in biotechnology were praised Friday here during a seminar prior to starting construction of a modern center in this densely populated Vietnamese city.
The meeting was organized by the Health Municipal Department, along with the pharmaceutical company in Sapharco city and the Cuban Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center.
Cuban science doctors Verena Lucila Muzio Gonzalez, Pedro Antonio Lopez Saura and Ramon Emilio Narciandi Diaz displayed a full array of biological products from the Island's industry, such as Heberkinasa, Interferon and Heberbiovac, among others.
Vietnamese health director Nguyen The Dung said that Ho Chi Minh City, supported by Cuban experts, will build a biotechnology center to produce medicines, biotechnological products for agriculture and other economic branches for this and others cities of this Asian nation.
The new institution will be a place to train experts and carry out scientific research related to biotechnology, a field in which Cuba boasts one of the highest levels of development in the world.
